Today I am thankful for sober parties.
I spent the evening with several beautiful young women who were young mothers.
They are all in recovery.
We had a sober party.
It was the best holiday ever!
They created art.
They played with the babies.
One of them sang. Her voice reminded me of Maria Brink.
Seriously -
she's awesome.
It's amazing how music can help us get to understand those around us.
Some women may be shy but we can feel their power when they open their mouths and sing.
Oh -
and they serenated me with an 80's song featuring my birth name complete with the fake English accent and the hip thrusts.
They didn't believe me when I told them that song came out the year I graduated.
They are beautiful souls.
It breaks my heart that society disparages people with addiction.
My opinion is that people who feel deeply are more prone to use. When the substances stop masking the people they truly are, we see their blinding light in all its glory.
It's powerful.

Would society be so nasty if they knew the truth?

I probably won't be working at this facility next year.
My opinions and methods don't mesh with management.
Besides, New Year's should either be spent on stage or supporting my bass player buddies working. Yeah, those poor souls who spend their days off dragging their equipment to a venue only to bounce around a stage and get paid 1/5th of the paltry sum (if any) they're paid to perform.

There are jerks who expect people to perform for nothing.
One thing is sure -
One thing is sure -
The vast majority of addiction counselors and musicians don't work for money.
They work for their love of the art.
